Who We Are

Napa Valley Land Stewards Alliance strives to bring balance and sound environmental reasoning to local land use regulations. We work to ensure that while good stewardship is encouraged, personal initiative and good will are recognized, and private property rights are respected. NVLSA advocates voluntary stewardship, education on environmental issues, and the wise and sustainable use of natural resources. We recognize that the people who live and work on the land are also those best positioned, most interested, and most likely to care for it, and that armed with the best information, they will be the best possible stewards of the land. NVLSA recognizes and appreciates that we all rely on those people, and we therefore oppose unnecessary and counterproductive regulation that may tend to alienate them. Measure A - Fair Payment for Public Benefit Act

NVLSA is proposing a new ballot initiative: THE FAIR PAYMENT FOR PUBLIC BENEFIT ACT.  Links and information about the initiative are located here. To jump-start the campaign against the initiative, the Napa County Board of Supervisors commissioned Seifel Consulting to prepare a report of Measure A’s potential negative impacts, as allowed under California Elections Code Section 9-111. NVLSA's rebuttal to the 9-111 report is here. How does Measure A compare with a similar statewide initiative?

Measure Z - "Read and Understand" Initiative

NVLSA believes, and common sense dictates, that our elected officials have a fundamental responsibility to read and understand all the ordinances they pass, yet there is considerable evidence that they do not, and there is currently no law requiring them to do so. NVLSA proposes to correct that via ballot initiative. The text of the initiative is posted here.

Fire Hazard Reduction Plan

NVLSA is working with others in the community to develop a plan to reduce the fire hazard in the Dry Creek - Lokoya area. You can read about this ongoing activity here.

NVLSA sent the attached letter out in Oct 2004 to 489 property owners in the Dry Creek-Lokoya Fire District, to generate interest for the project. If you live in this fire district and want to help, or want more information, print and mail this form to NVLSA.
