In 2008 the California State Water Resource Control Board proposed stringent new regulations on rural septic systems, supposedly necessary to implement AB885.
Some of those restrictions would have made many properties undevelopable, would have made it very expensive to develop other properties, and would have imposed onerous new restrictions and unnecessary expenses on existing properties, even those with properly functioning septic systems.
Public workshops were held at various locations, including Santa Rosa. NVLSA members joined hundreds of others in writing letters opposing the new regulation, and in attending the Santa Rosa meeting.
Due to strong public opposition, the Water Board withdrew the proposed regulation and announced that it would try to write a new regulation to implement AB885.
As of December 2009, no new regulation has been proposed.
